F-35B Lighting II Contract Instructor Pilot (CIP). Instruct and evaluate students in both the classroom and the F-35B Full Mission Simulator (FMS) in all aircraft systems, aerodynamics, normal and emergency procedures, instrument navigation, weapons and radar systems, section and division tactics, and aeronautical decision-making. Instructor position required CIPs to provide instruction while flying the F-35B FMS.

Established all policies governing flight operations, aircraft maintenance, aircrew training, aviation safety, operational risk management, hazardous material handling, logistics, and administration. Command period included a rigorous 8-month deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In 2009, the squadron was selected as the Most Outstanding Attack Squadron in Marine Aviation and earned the Marine Corps Aviation Association’s Attack Squadron of the Year award. The squadron also earned consecutive Chief of Naval Operations Aviation Safety awards in both 2008 & 2009 in recognition of its “exemplary safety, operational excellence and contributions to the improvement of Naval Aviation safety.”

Program was nominated by the Secretary of the Navy for the Department of Defense’s "David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award" for “exemplary innovation and best acquisition practices.” A Dragon Eye UAV is currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.
